Equinox Resort & Spa – Manchester, Vermont

With over 200 years of New England history, the Equinox Hotel is located in southern Vermont’s quaint Manchester Village. Even though the hotel is open year-round, however for this review we will be looking at it from a ski-family perspective.

The hotel is just a 20 minutes drive to Stratton Mountain and 15 minutes to Bromley.

The Property

Since becoming a Starwood property the hotel has undergone extensive renovations. It spans over 5 different building with 195 rooms and suites. The resort is elegant yet inviting, and you can really feel the history.

The Rooms

The main hotel building offers a few different room types with either garden or village views.

Traditional rooms with one king or queen bed (possible room for crib or rollaway) **Our friends were able to squeeze an Aerobed on the floor for their kids.

Deluxe Rooms are slightly more specious than traditional rooms. ** With two queen beds, still enough space for a crib.

Superior Rooms have two queen beds and ample space for a crib or rollaway.

The Bi-level Suite is extremely spacious and can well accommodate a family of four if not more. ** Our family of four stayed in this room, and we could have easily made room for more. We had a king bed upstairs and our kids slept on the very comfortable pullout down below. There was still plenty of floor space for a rollaway or crib… or both! The downfall (or plus) to this room, was that we were not on the same level as our kids, and the kids were a little hesitant about this.

Regardless of which room you choose, they are old, but they are clean and have modern updates.

Equinox-Hotel-Falcon Bar

There are a few different onsite dining options to choose from. Reservations are strongly

Chop House is the hotel’s newest restaurant, and also one if the finest steakhouses in the area. the pricing is on the high side and you will see fewer families dining than in Marsh Tavern, however it is family friendly. They do have a kids menu with some more affordable options. The food is delicious!

Marsh Tavern has a history that predates the Revolutionary War. It is extremely family-friendly, and offers a kid’s menu, organic milk choices and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The food is is not going to blow you away, but it’s good enough. The restaurant is just oh-so convenient, especially after long day on the slopes. Reservations accepted on OpenTable.

Falcon Bar is located just off the lobby, and is a great little place to have a drink or two and indulge in a cheese or chocolate plate (only two food options).

Colonnade is the hotel’s grand dining room, which serves a lovely and substantial breakfast buffet. At the breakfast buffet, you will find everything from Fruit Loops to fresh yogurt smoothies. In the event that you don’t find anything at the breakfast buffet, you do have the option to order from the menu.

Note about Stratton Mountain Ski School

If you are thinking about enrolling your kids in ski/snowboard school or lessons, we highly recommend the program at Stratton Mountain! With all fairness we have not used the Bromley Mountain program, but have heard good things. We can attest that Stratton runs a very solid ski/snowboard program for kids. They offer full and half-day options, for ages 3 and up. The instructors are all very seasoned and have a way of making lessons fun. Give their ski school a call 1-800-STRATTON to discuss details. Your kids will learn to ski/snowboard at Stratton!
