The hotel is centrally located on New York’s tony 5th Avenue, and the hotel’s affectation is equally as grand. The building is a 1905 landmark, built in the Progressive Era of New York, when wealth was abundant and exemplified in architectural detail.
There are 3 major airports servicing New York City; LaGuardia, JFK and Newark (New Jersey). All three airports offer accessible and readily available ground transportation to New York City as taxis are abundant. If your plans don’t require you to leave New York City, your best bet is to rely on public transportation or car service and not bother with renting a car.
The hotel is comprised of 235 rooms and suits, from 370 sq ft to 3300 sq ft. The view choices are either interior or 5th Avenue street views – at a higher price of course. Our foursome stayed in the Jr. suite with a connecting second room with the interior view, which was basically no view. The space was tight, yet larger than other hotels in New York where we have stayed. Keep in mind, if you do elect to stay in a suite, and upon availability you will have access to a house car (Mini Cooper) and driver.
Regardless of the room or view that you choose, you can expect:
- Fresh crisp linens
- Marble Bathrooms
- Mood Lighting
- High-speed Internet
- High-end bath products
- Complimentary daily newspaper
- Twice daily housekeeping
- Plush bathrobes for adults and kids too!
New York is home to some of the finest restaurants in the world, and one of them just so happens to be housed in the Peninsula New York.
Clement is the hotel’s signature restaurant, and you would be remiss to pass it up, With a contemporary American menu comprised of fresh northeastern ingredients and handcrafted cocktails, this restaurant is a gem. Children are welcome, however we suggest you bring them ahead of the dinner crowd. Reservations are strongly suggested, and can made with OpenTable or by the hotel concierge. Clement is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and has an amazingly delicious Sunday brunch.
The Bar at Clement is located on the mezzanine level of the hotel with views overlooking 5th Avenue. The vibe is cool and sleek, with equally as sophisticated cocktails and Asian-inspired bites to nosh on. Business casual attire is preferred.
On a nice night, you might want to leave the kids behind and visit the rooftop Salon de Ning which offers beautiful skyline views and fabulous cocktails. Smart casual dress preferred.
The newly renovated Gotham Lounge has more of a residential feel, almost as if you have stepped into a friend’s living room (a friend with exquisite taste, and probably no kids). On the menu, lighter fare, cocktails and a lovely afternoon tea, which you will find other families enjoying. The afternoon tea menu for children includes: mini cupcakes, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, Nutella and strawberries, Rice Crispy treats, hot chocolate and decadent brownies. that you won’t be able to resist.
In-room dining is always an option at the Peninsula New York, and after a long day or late night of sightseeing just might be the perfect option.
The skylight indoor pool offers you and the kids a rare opportunity to boast that you went swimming on 5th Ave! Pools like this are few and far between in New York City, so don’t forget to bring your swimsuits
